Root Canal Therapy

A root canal is needed when decay or an infection affects the nerve of a tooth. To save the tooth, the tissue inside the tooth (the pulp), nerves, bacteria, and any decay must be removed. After removal, the resulting space is filled, which restores the tooth back to its full function.

A root canal saves a tooth that otherwise would die and would have to be removed. Root canals are highly successful procedures and usually last a lifetime. However, on occasion, a tooth may have to be retreated due to new infections.
